See what’s coming in the next couple of months!
National Theatre at Home has announced the release of two productions for its streaming platform this summer.
Alterations will be available from 12 August. Written by Michael Abbensetts, the production was captured earlier this year from its largest ever staging at the National Theatre.
Set over the course of a single night, the story follows Walker Holt, a tailor with an ambitious order to fulfil. As the night unfolds, personal tensions surface, reflecting the experiences of the Guyanese community in 1970s London. Lynette Linton directs, with additional material by Trish Cooke. The cast included Arinzé Kene and Cherrelle Skeete.
Streaming from 9 September is Retrograde, written by Ryan Calais Cameron. The play centres on a young Sidney Poitier in 1950s Hollywood, faced with a career-defining decision. Originally staged at the Kiln Theatre and later transferring to the West End, the production was recorded live at the Apollo Theatre. Amit Sharma directs a cast including Ivanno Jeremiah, Stanley Townsend and Oliver Johnstone. The West End run was produced by Colman Domingo and Nica Burns, and received a glowing review from WhatsOnStage.
Both titles join the National Theatre at Home’s library of over 100 productions. The platform launched in 2020 and adds new content each month. Subscriptions are available at £9.99 per month or £99.99 annually. All productions include captions, and most offer audio description.
